Archives for the month of: February, 2015

July 3, 2010, the Possum Family Singers return to the Black Butte River Ranch Fourth of July party, (making $200, almost enough to cover gas)  Since we gave Muffy a ride to the party/camp-out, we could not go off camping and instead headed home on Sunday afternoon.possumfamily at covelopossum sepia large  These photos are from the 2011 gig, I think.

on our return, Judy and Matt fire Muffy!  Just kidding-  Judy is Matt’s wife-  she isn’t in the band  .  .  .

August 7 is the first anniversary of the Possum Family Singers, formed a month after the Cavepainters breakup, playing monthly at Chester’s and invited for a weekly residency at the Starry Plough on Saturdays .

12/22-  to Palmdale for Christmas @ Martha’s

I am doing a lot of shoveling and sifting in the new year, looking for travel stuff to fill out these pages.  This little drawing is from a trip to Arizona, maybe the 4 corners trip.  I flipped it so the bleed-through would read  .  .  . trailer sketch mystery Everything needs to be exalted, to find what it first wanted to be.  This is a teaching of Caroline Casey, Visionary Activist.  I have rushed through many of these posts, just trying to get something down.  Often when I have time I go back and rewrite, and I find journals and photos organized to the point that i can relive some of the memories, and the “mystery” of it. I took so many photos planning to someday do paintings from them.  Steve was always full-speed-ahead, we never stayed anywhere for long. The very few times. I was able to paint en plein air, I got something great from it.  drylake-signedThis piece is of Clark Dry Lake in Death Valley, and I incorporated some of the native sand to get the color right. Now and then I do paint from a photograph, but it can take much longer.  anzaborrego- smallerThis is a quick watercolor that was very successful in expressing the feeling of a desert wash Many of the photos are wonderful in their own right.  This was taken with my first digital camera, a Nikon with “vivid” setting.  It gave a sense of the brilliant colors of the desert which I have never found MT06 064in another camera.  Actually the date is 2006, and the time is a couple of hours off, I think. There is no saying whether I will actually get down to the follow-through, that is to be seen in my batcactus blog.
